Cultural Analysis
The first ’safety’ bicycles were barely off the assembly line when people hopped on and rode away, experiencing a fantastic sense of liberation and freedom. The bicycle served to liberate the working classes and not least women by providing them with an affordable, independent transport form.
Here in Bicycle Culture 2.0 the bicycle is still capable of the same kind of societal liberation. After over half a century of car culture, we are poised to reestablish the bicycle as an acceptable, feasible and enjoyable form of transport in cities and towns around the world.
The majority in Copenhagen, when polled, say that they choose the bicycle because it’s easy and fast. 54%. 19% say they do so because it’s good with a bit of exercise. 1% say they ride because of environmental considerations. The average citizen does not wish to be a ‘cyclist’ or an ‘environmentalist’. They merely wish for it to made possible for them to get to and fro with the least amount of hassle possible. Copenhagenize Consulting’s unique anthropological angle marries the users to the infrastructure and we advise in how communities can understand the challenges of encouraging citizens who grew up in car-based cultures to mount their saddles and pedal.
Through a comprehensive cultural analysis of each client location, Copenhagenize Consulting can determine which focus areas should recieve attention and we will create a strategic plan for how you can inspire your citizens to choose the bicycle. Services include:
