The increase in Hamburg's bicycle modal share is steady and their recent bike share programme will certainly increase it further. The bicycle has returned to the neighbourhoods of the city and the gender split is improving. Hamburg has all the ingredients necessary to make a difference.

Come on Hamburg, you’re sandwiched between Amsterdam and Copenhagen. It’s time to start building better bike lanes, based on existing best practice, instead of DIY solutions. Your citizens want to ride, and you could be making it a lot easier for them. Expand the bike share and start thinking bolder about cycle tracks and facilities.
